It’s Been a While…

I know I haven’t posted in a while – it hasn’t been the easiest few months.  I’m writing this while on a train from Philadelphia  listening to songs that will hopefully make me feel better about the 5 hours I have left to go on this ride…

This weekend while visiting my long distance boyfriend I learned a few things:

1.  Philadelphia has really good food.  

2.  Goodbyes don’t get easier (unfortunately).

3.  You can NEVER pack enough clothes (I brought a whole suitcase for 3 days and still didn’t want to wear any of it).

4.  Spotify is a gift straight from GOD.

5.  7 boys in a house means no paper towels, no clean forks, and very few mirrors…
It was overall a good weekend and Philly is a cool city.  It’s no Boston, although they are pretty similar.  I would definitely recommend – and the weather is great this time of year. 

P.s. If you do go, definitely expect to gain 10-20 pounds 😉

Summertime Date Ideas

Summer is supposed to be a time of having fun in the sun, right?? Well for me it always fails to meet that expectation.  The days usually just consist of work, sleep, and trying to figure out something NOT boring to do.

I compiled a list of fun dates that you and your beau (or gal pals) can try out this summer to beat the boredom!

  1. Go to the beach! 
  2. Movies. (I just saw Wonder Woman and LOVED it)
  3. Go for a walk in the park/city.
  4. Go out to dinner.
  5. Go out for ice cream.
  6. Bowling.
  7. Mini Golf.
  8. Put some popcorn in the microwave and host your own movie marathon.
  9. S’mores on the fire pit.
  10. Hit the gym!
  11. Plan out a dream vacation with flights, hotels, and meals all worked out.
  12. Organize an area of the house (if you’re REALLY bored)
  13. Find a pool!
  14. Go to a sports game (Go Red Sox!)
  15. Bake something!
  16. Go thrift shopping.
  17. Go to the spa (men can get pedicures, right?)
  18. Read.
  19. Brunch!
  20. Pack a lunch and have a picnic at your favorite spot in town.

My Week in Florence

Last year I took the most amazing trip of my life to the beautiful Florence, Italy.  I would absolutely love to go back, and plan to do so when I study abroad in Europe in two years. 

I was blown away by the breathtaking art, food, architecture, and people of Florence. If anyone is wondering where in Europe to visit, I HIGHLY recommend the city of Florence.  It was so different from any city in America.  Streets were made for actual pedestrians rather than the countless cars that take over roads in America.  It was a fantastic vacation and I cannot wait to go back!

Here are some pictures from my trip – I hope you guys enjoy!

Like come on!  This doesn’t even look real. It is such a ginormous and incredible (not to mention old!) piece of architecture that just blows my mind every time I think about it.

This is the beautiful river that runs through the city.  I literally just sat here in peace for an hour.

And of course – FOOD.  This is just one of the many unbelievable meals I ate in Italy.  If you like pasta in America (which let’s face it, who doesn’t?!) just wait until you taste the fresh spaghetti in Florence.

The one dessert I had that wasn’t gelato..which I had every night! This was at a place where we could make our own little ice cream bar and it was amazing. Like everything else I ate there. 


And finally: the unbelievable Duomo. This was so massive and beautiful that I cannot even describe it.

Going to Florence was an absolutely life-changing experience and I would recommend it to everyone who likes food and culture.  I am so excited to go back to this beautiful city and to explore other parts of Europe!

Tips & Tricks to Surviving Your Freshman Year of College

I’m not going to lie, going to college is SCARY at first.  What if my roommate smells bad? What if I fail all my classes? What if I gain the Freshman 15? (You will.) What if I don’t make any friends? All of these fears are understandable, because I had the same ones.  I wanted to make a list of tips and tricks for surviving freshman year of college for anyone who feels the same fears that I did.

 

  1. Get out of your comfort zone. If you don’t normally go to parties, go to a party! If you have never thought of playing college sports – join an intramural team! If you love to write but have never shared your work before – inquire about a school newspaper, or see if there are any other clubs that interest you.  Your only regret will be NOT getting involved.
  2. Find your study spot on (or off) campus. Studying in a dorm room works for some people, but many students get more work done when they are away from the distraction of their beds… The library is a useful tool, but is crowded a lot of the time.  Find a private area or café where you can get YOUR best work done.  A lot of the time, schools will offer certain classrooms as a study spot for students – take advantage!
  3. Stay active. If you go to a large school, this is pretty much inevitable.  When I’m at school I usually get the recommended 10,000 steps a day (which honestly NEVER happens when I’m at home).  If you go to a smaller school, staying active might be more difficult.  However, most colleges offer free gym memberships, and the gyms themselves are usually VERY nice.  Lots of college gyms offer fun classes like spinning and kickboxing – go with a friend and check it out!
  4. As a freshman, you will have so many chances to get out and explore.  Check out opportunities on and off campus.  Go for a walk around your college town. If you go to school in the city, you have even better access to all kinds of different opportunities.  Make sure to explore with a friend or two – it’s always safer than being alone!
  5. Don’t Stress. Yes, your GPA matters, but it’s not the end of the world if you get a bad grade.  Just let it act as a motivator for you to do better/study harder next time! You can never lose – you either succeed or you learn.  So get study a lot, sleep even more, and make sure you balance work and play.

Summer Beauty Picks


So this is a collection of my absolute favorite beauty products. Most of them are inexpensive and can be found in your nearby drugstore…although I did splurge on a few of these!

I’m going to start with the GlamGlow Supercleanse Daily Clearing Cleanser. This face wash is absolutely incredible and helps to get rid of excess oil, dirt, and makeup on your face. I usually mix a dime-sized drop into my palm with some warm water, and then work the mud-like cleanser into my face. You can find this product on Amazon and elsewhere. Use in the shower and before bed! But make sure to follow it with moisturizer…

SPEAKING of moisturizer, my favorite is bareMinerals Essential Moisturizing Soft Cream. This stuff is a little pricey, but completely worth it. It keeps your face soft without making your skin oily.

Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water is the BEST makeup remover that I have found! It is also pretty inexpensive and will last a long time.

Ultabeauty Brow Shaping Gel works miracles! I don’t like getting my eyebrows done all the time, so if you have a few stragglers like I do, then DEFINITELY invest in this brow gel! It is clear colored so it won’t make your brows look unnatural. It’s also waterproof, so it is PERFECT for the summer!
The next product that made my list is the surprisingly inexpensive Pores Be Pure Mud Mask. This stuff feels amazing once it’s on, and even better after you’ve washed it off! I use it about 3 times a week and it has really helped to clear up my skin. Did I mention that it smells amazing??

I have been using Blistex Lip Medex since I was a little girl, and I still stand by it!! It is the best for your lips, and super inexpensive!

Out of all the high-end and drugstore mascaras I have used, this Covergirl mascara is by far my favorite! You can find it in your nearby CVS for about $8. It seriously makes my short eyelashes look like they have more volume & length. Love, love, LOVE.
And last but not least…my Naked2 palette. I have had the Naked and Naked2 palettes for YEARS now, and I still use them every day. I don’t care what anyone says – THESE ARE WORTH THE MONEY. That is all.

Lazy Girls Can Work Out Too!

If you’re at all like me, then going to the gym can be a major hassle… Between all the intimidatingly fit people, to the jacked men (which can be oh-so-distracting) it is hard to feel confident while working out in such an environment! I always want to look my best, but sometimes going to the gym is just TOO hard.

Here are some tips for girls who have a hard time getting to the gym (like myself) but still WANT to improve!

  • If you are going to go to the gym – be confident! Don’t worry about what other people are doing, how fast they are running, how little they are sweating – chances are they are feeling just as insecure about their own workout and appearance, so they won’t be worried about what you are doing.
  • I know that for me, the hardest part about going to the gym is actually getting there… I have to convince myself over and over again that it is worth it to go, but still even then it is not enough.  So, on those days that you can get yourself to the gym – make it count! If you live close enough, walk or bike to the gym; if you have to drive, then park in the last spot to burn a few extra calories before and after your workout! Make these habits to enhance every workout.
  • Rainy day? There’s nothing wrong with watching some Netflix, but make it worth your while! Do some sit-ups during Scandal or some squats during Grey’s Anatomy – binging does not have to be bad! Even better: take Netflix with you to the gym! Bring your phone or tablet and get lost in your favorite show while crushing it on the elliptical. Who says you can’t multitask?
  • Take advantage of your resources. The internet and On Demand are loaded with workouts you can do right at home! Grab out your yoga mat and start sweatin’! No gym required.
  • Work out with a friend! This is ALWAYS better than working out alone, and you can push each other to perform better. Go for a jog and struggle together.  A workout buddy is the best kind of friend.
  • Classes, classes, classes. Check out your local gym’s class schedule and see what interests you.  Don’t be afraid to take a yoga class even if you have never tried it before! Zumba and kickboxing are my favorites – you will have a blast while blasting calories! Grab your gal pal and your water bottle and get to class!

May Food Finds!

THESE ARE THE BEST THINGS EVER. No exaggeration. Even if you aren’t a ~huge~ coconut fan, these things will blow your mind. They’re tasty and crunchy and the bag lasts forever (unless you’re like me and have NO self control). Seriously though, these are amazing. And are sold pretty much at any supermarket (I got mine at Stop&Shop) so they are easy to get! Please buy and eat these little gems of deliciousness.

This is 2nd on my list of May Food Finds because I have found a new love for iced tea. However, I have NOT recently become a millionaire, so I’d rather not spend $5 per drink at Starbucks three times a day.  So if you’re also not a millionaire and love iced tea then this is perfect! This little box makes 6 huge pitchers, and are only like $3 a box…so yeah I’m pretty obsessed.


Ugh I love Trader Joe’s. Like honestly, I could live there if it was not filled with obnoxious customers who are ALWAYS in the way. But these chocolate covered almonds are amazing because they give you a little taste of chocolate without completely putting your calorie count over the edge. And almonds are good for you, dark chocolate has TONS of health benefits…so basically it’s a salad (right?!) These are a good buy along with everything else at Trader Joe’s. Go get ’em. And send me some more because this box is GONE.
