Summertime Date Ideas

Summer is supposed to be a time of having fun in the sun, right?? Well for me it always fails to meet that expectation.  The days usually just consist of work, sleep, and trying to figure out something NOT boring to do.

I compiled a list of fun dates that you and your beau (or gal pals) can try out this summer to beat the boredom!

  1. Go to the beach!
  2. Movies. (I just saw Wonder Woman and LOVED it)
  3. Go for a walk in the park/city.
  4. Go out to dinner.
  5. Go out for ice cream.
  6. Bowling.
  7. Mini Golf.
  8. Put some popcorn in the microwave and host your own movie marathon.
  9. S’mores on the fire pit.
  10. Hit the gym!
  11. Plan out a dream vacation with flights, hotels, and meals all worked out.
  12. Organize an area of the house (if you’re REALLY bored)
  13. Find a pool!

My Week in Florence

Last year I took the most amazing trip of my life to the beautiful Florence, Italy.  I would absolutely love to go back, and plan to do so when I study abroad in Europe in two years.

I was blown away by the breathtaking art, food, architecture, and people of Florence. If anyone is wondering where in Europe to visit, I HIGHLY recommend the city of Florence.  It was so different from any city in America.  Streets were made for actual pedestrians rather than the countless cars that take over roads in America.  It was a fantastic vacation and I cannot wait to go back!

Here are some pictures from my trip – I hope you guys enjoy!

Like come on!  This doesn’t even look real. It is such a ginormous and incredible (not to mention old!) piece of architecture that just blows my mind every time I think about it.

This is the beautiful river that runs through the city.  I literally just sat here in peace for an hour.

And of course – FOOD.  This is just one of the many unbelievable meals I ate in Italy.  If you like pasta in America (which let’s face it, who doesn’t?!) just wait until you taste the fresh spaghetti in Florence.

A crazy beautiful piece of art in a cool museum…I really don’t know anything about art but I thought this was just awesome.

Wish I knew who this was a statue of!

The one dessert I had that wasn’t gelato..which I had every night! This was at a place where we could make our own little ice cream bar and it was amazing. Like everything else I ate there.

And finally: the unbelievable Duomo. This was so massive and beautiful that I cannot even describe it.

Going to Florence was an absolutely life-changing experience and I would recommend it to everyone who likes food and culture.  I am so excited to go back to this beautiful city and to explore other parts of Europe!
Question: Have any of you ever traveled to Europe? If so, what was your favorite city and why?

Tips & Tricks to Surviving Your Freshman Year of College

I’m not going to lie, going to college is SCARY at first.  What if my roommate smells bad? What if I fail all my classes? What if I gain the Freshman 15? (You will.) What if I don’t make any friends? All of these fears are understandable, because I had the same ones.  I wanted to make a list of tips and tricks for surviving freshman year of college for anyone who feels the same fears that I did.

  1. Get out of your comfort zone. If you don’t normally go to parties, go to a party! If you have never thought of playing college sports – join an intramural team! If you love to write but have never shared your work before – inquire about a school newspaper, or see if there are any other clubs that interest you.  Your only regret will be NOT getting involved.
  2. Find your study spot on (or off) campus. Studying in a dorm room works for some people, but many students get more work done when they are away from the distraction of their beds… The library is a useful tool, but is crowded a lot of the time.  Find a private area or café where you can get YOUR best work done.  A lot of the time, schools will offer certain classrooms as a study spot for students – take advantage!
  3. Stay active. If you go to a large school, this is pretty much inevitable.  When I’m at school I usually get the recommended 10,000 steps a day (which honestly NEVER happens when I’m at home).  If you go to a smaller school, staying active might be more difficult.  However, most colleges offer free gym memberships, and the gyms themselves are usually VERY nice.  Lots of college gyms offer fun classes like spinning and kickboxing – go with a friend and check it out!
  4. As a freshman, you will have so many chances to get out and explore.  Check out opportunities on and off campus.  Go for a walk around your college town. If you go to school in the city, you have even better access to all kinds of different opportunities.  Make sure to explore with a friend or two – it’s always safer than being alone!
  5. Don’t Stress. Yes, your GPA matters, but it’s not the end of the world if you get a bad grade.  Just let it act as a motivator for you to do better/study harder next time! You can never lose – you either succeed or you learn.  So get study a lot, sleep even more, and make sure you balance work and play.

My TV Picks

OK so a lot of my friends are always looking for a new show to watch on Netflix, and they usually come to me, because, well, they know how much I like my TV.  If any of you are in this predicament, this list will hopefully help you choose your next binge!

(The following is in no particular order)

  1. ONE TREE HILL – Okay I lied, this one is in a particular order because this is my favorite show of all time.  Seriously, if you haven’t watched this yet then do yourself a favor and OPEN A NEW TAB to start this masterpiece of a television series.  Although it starts off a little slow (for some, not me of course), the series picks up and gets better and better with every season.  Brooke Davis is basically my hero, and if you start this show right now, she will be yours too.  10/10
  2. FRIENDS – This is a classic series, and you have all probably seen reruns on TV because they are seriously ALWAYS on, but I highly recommend starting the series over from the beginning.  It is a witty and hilarious show, with characters so relatable it’ll have you identifying as Rachel Green in no time.  Although there are some characters that are sometimes so annoying you’ll want to cry, like in any show, the good moments FAR outweigh the obnoxious ones.  Phoebe and Ross are two characters who I sometimes CANNOT STAND, while other times I am peeing my pants laughing because of them (“MY SANDWICH”).  If they annoy you too, just give it/them a chance.  9.5/10
  3. THE OFFICE – Another obvious choice if you are a fan of sarcasm, this is one of the smartest and funniest shows that has ever been created.  Honestly.  Michael Scott WILL drive you crazy as much as he will make you laugh.  Pam and Jim WILL make you cry and wonder why your boyfriend is not like Jim. (Sorry, spoiler but c’mon we all see it coming even if we don’t know).  If you do not think this show is “your type”  (which, yes, I will admit I did say…) then you are wrong because it is everyone’s type and watching it was one of the BEST decisions of my life (a little dramatic, but accurate). 10/10
  4. REVENGE – This is a show that is juicy, a little messed up, and will make you want to live in the Hamptons.  Although it lost my interest for a little bit, it still gets a spot on My TV Picks because the parts that didn’t lose my interest were VERY entertaining.  Also, there are too many amazing outfits in the show to not end up on this list.  7.5/10
  5. NEW GIRL – Just one of those fun shows that you watch if you have nothing to do and could use a laugh.  The characters in the show all work together to make it entertaining; even though the main character Jess gets on my nerves most of the time, the rest of the characters make up for her annoyingness and are present enough so that it is not a problem. Not a serious one, but, sometimes those are the ones you need to binge.  And at 22 minutes a piece, it is VERY easy to watch the entire series in a short period of time.  8/10
  6. HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER – Another one of the EASIEST shows to binge watch on Netflix.  The characters are hilarious.  The episodes are ridiculous.  And even though Ted Mosby can get a little whiney at times, anything with Neil Patrick Harris is worth watching.  This is one of those shows that is hilarious the first time through, but some of the episodes lose their appeal after the first viewing.  8.5/10
  7. CHICAGO FIRE/CHICAGO PD – These shows are NOT on Netflix, yet… I am hoping for everyone’s sake that they are added soon.  I watch them On Demand and have a series recording set up.  PD features the always amazing Sophia Bush, which is why I started watching these shows in the first place.  They are heartfelt and easy to keep up with.  I would HIGHLY recommend starting them both if you are into action, romance, comedy, and drama.  8.5/10
  8. SHAMELESS – Disgustingly hilarious.  Messed up.  Not a show to watch with your parents… The characters are all equally messed up and the amount of nudity is innumerable.  However, the show is ADDICTING.  If you are looking for something provocative and rule-breaking — this is it.  The more you watch this show the more you will realize how normal your life is.  Very entertaining.  Very deranged.  Sometimes you will have to look away.  9/10

If you start any of these PLEASE let me know your thoughts… Or if you have any suggestions I am always looking for a new show 😉
